This is a fairly basic site content-wise, but it’s the first client site we’ve built on the Bootstrap 3 framework — extensively customized, of course, and fairly heavily optimized. jQuery provides animations when you mouse over project thumbnails, and the project slideshows themselves are powered by Bootstrap’s Carousel component.
The main reasons for using Bootstrap 3 were the built-in grid and responsive design features, which were also heavily customized. Menus become collapsible on small screens, and images resize or disappear as appropriate.
The portfolio and project section is built using a MySQL database and PHP scripts that grab the content and image filenames as needed. A while ago, I created a “universal” PHP-based CRUD tool that makes it easy to add rows to an existing database table, and used here to add all the projects quickly. It’s not a true CMS, but it makes it easy to add new content to frequently-updated areas while allowing me to completely customize the output.
